Best Small Wood Stoves On The Market Today

If you are looking for a small wood stove the first place to start is in your mind. You need to decide what the word “small” means. To mean small means something less than 17” wide and no more than 25” long. To others they are talking about heating area. Typical wood stoves can heat from 1500 square feet to over 3000 square feet. To other people when they hear small stoves they are thinking in terms of BTU’s. As you can see the word small can mean a lot of different things to different people.

To start out you need to define the area you want your wood stove in. Next wood be how much you want heated. Will it be a located in the living room for a show piece or will it be a real home warmer. Do you have an idea to heat your garage or backyard shed. Just remember if you do place it in the home and want it to heat more than one room you will need to figure out heat flow that ensures the maximum amount of heat being dispersed in the home.

Location of Your Stoves Is Critical

Location of your wood stove for heating purposes is critical. To be honest with you we have moved our wood stove three different times in the 18 years we have lived in our home. Finally on the third try we have a great flow of heat that honestly warms the entire home with no problem. We were happy with our second remodel but when our home burnt down we decided to move the stove and we really do thank our contractor for the recommendation.

To determine how the heat will flow in your home simply look at the ceiling and figure out how many headers the heat will need to move around in order to enter the room. Bedrooms are the hardest area to get the heat into because the header is rather large and that means the heat needs to cool down and start dropping in order for it to move into the bedroom. The further away the bedrooms are the harder it will be to warm that room. Our first heater was facing the wrong direction and never did adequately warm more than two rooms in our home.

Small Wood Stove Options

If you are looking to warm an area of around 1000 square feet or less there are two companies on the market today that make really small wood stoves. Both of them have several model lines that will do a great job of keeping these areas warm. In fact if you like to cook on your wood stove then you are in luck because there are some great options on the market.

Pot belly wood stoves are on a comeback and one of those companies have a couple of options for you. They are definitely different looking but they will wear on you. And heat, they can produce enough heat to keep you in shorts all winter long.

Air Flow In The Room

If you live in an older home then you should not have a problem with air flow because they are not built as air tight as they are today. With the wrap around the outside of the house and the new vinyl windows it is really hard to get a positive air flow into the home and into the wood stove. At times you will need to crack open your windows to help get that positive air flow. What we found out is we have a bathroom nearby and it will suck the air from the bathroom fan into our home. It can cause a cold air flowing into the bathroom and you will feel it if you are sitting on the camode. If we close the bathroom door then the bathroom will become bone chilling cold so we keep it open and just deal with it. If we really wanted we could open a window near the wood stove but we would rather just let the bathroom fan do it’s job.

We are wood heat burners and have been for over 50 years. We do not use any other form of heat in our home. If you are not going to use your woodstove as your only heat source then location will not matter. Take this information provided with you into the dealer shop and buy with confidence.
